May 1999 New Thinking Alex Ferguson May 31, 1999: For those of you who don’t already know, Alex Ferguson is the manager of the Manchester United Football Club. For those of you who don’t know, Manchester United (Man United) on Wednesday 26th May 1999, won a unique football treble: The European Cup, The English Premiership and the English FA Cup. It was an amazing achievement won in amazing style by an amazing team. It was, quite literally, the stuff that dreams are made of. More The Web and TV May 24, 1999: The Web and the TV are different. There is room for both. The television set is not television programming. Television programming is visually dominated, mass market oriented, pre-packaged, passive media. Web ‘programming’ is text dominated, mass and niche capable, open-ended, interactive media. We view television for a performance. We interact with the Web for information flow. Websters Dictionary defines privacy as, “the quality or state of being apart from company or observation; freedom from unauthorized intrusion.” More Owning the future May 10, 1999: On the Internet, whoever owns the relationship with the customer owns the future. Products come and go but a relationship can last. Products are increasingly becoming commodities but relationships can remain unique. More Children are children May 03, 1999: It’s so easy to seem to be what you are not in the digital age. The Industrial Age was a much more predictable world. Things didn’t change as fast. The world was quite physical. Not everything was as it seemed, but much was. In the digital age, and particularly on the Internet, the world is much more fuzzy.
