McGovern Scorecard
If you want to reduce design and management costs for your website, while at the same time increasing customer satisfaction, and enhancing value creation, The McGovern Scorecard is for you.Developed over a 10-year period it is a systematic way of measuring whether a website is achieving best practice in publishing processes and information architecture. It is focused on helping you maximize the value that your website is delivering. The benefits are twofold:
- You get a better quality website at a lower cost by adhering to the publishing processes outlined in the Scorecard. Only the killer content gets published, and the filler content is deleted. This nearly always leads to a smaller, leaner website, with staff focusing on quality, not quantity.
- A standard information architecture (metadata, navigation, search, layout) will make it much easier for people to quickly find what they want on your website. There is one word that describes everyone on the Web: impatient. The Scorecard delivers to you a simple, robust architecture that saves you customers time, and will save you money by being faster to implement and easier to manage.
Who is the McGovern Scorecard for?
You will find the McGovern Scorecard very beneficial if you have:- A large website
- Multiple websites that require coordination and integration
- A significant number of authors, contributors and editors who require common guidelines
How is the McGovern Scorecard organized?
The McGovern Scorecard is broken down into the following six sections:- Publishing processes: This examines how you identify your reader (user); identify content for that reader; create, edit and publish content; build your publishing team; and define your publishing measurables.
- Web writing: Examines how you achieve best practice in writing content that works effectively on the Web.
- Metadata: Examines how you design your classification (taxonomy), and how you design the rest of the metadata for your content.
- Navigation: Examines how you design your navigation so that it is as intuitive and easy-to-use as possible.
- Search: Examines how you design your basic and advanced search functions, and how you present your search results.
- Webpage layout: Examines how you achieve best practice in laying out your content so that it is attractive and readable.
How does the McGovern Scorecard work?
The McGovern Scorecard has the following structure:- Each question is given a weight between 1 and 100. The higher the weight the more important the question.
- A question can achieve a score from 0 to 5. The higher the score the more the compliance with the question.
- The Total Optimal Score for a particular question is 5 multiplied by the weight for that question.
- The Total Actual Score for a particular question is found by multiplying the score given to the question by the weight for that question.
- At the end of each section of the Scorecard, a grand total optimal and actual score is calculated. The grand total actual score is divided by the grand total optimal score to achieve a percentage.
- When the five sections of the Scorecard are completed, an overall percentage is calculated.
