Rolf Molich

Rolf MolichRolf Molich owns and manages DialogDesign, a small Danish usability consultancy. Rolf's basic attitude is "If the users can't use a product, then it doesn't work."

Rolf is highly respected in the usability community for his insistence on quality in usability work, his relentless fight against "Voodoo usability methods" as well as his professional enthusiasm and curiosity. His curiosity led him to conceive and coordinate the comparative usability evaluation studies where a total of more than sixty professional usability teams tested or reviewed the same applications. The insight gained from these studies has been formulated in a number of peer-reviewed papers, which have had considerable influence on the way in which usability evaluations are carried out today.

Rolf is co-author of the best-selling usability book "E-Commerce User Experience", which contains several hundred guidelines for useful and usable e-commerce. Rolf was a principal investigator in the Nielsen Norman Group's large scale usability test of 20 US E-Commerce web sites involving more than 60 users, which produced the raw data for the book.

A popular speaker on usability at professional meetings, his topics include popular introductions to usability, how to successfully promote a world-class usability function in an organization, intranet usability, e-commerce usability, the ethics of usability, advanced usability testing methodology, and more. Rolf has spoken on usability all over the world mostly receiving high user ratings.

Rolf has worked with usability since 1984; he is the author of the best-selling Danish book Usable Web Design of which almost 30,000 copies have been sold. The book has recently been translated into English. Rolf is the co-inventor of the heuristic inspection method (with Jakob Nielsen).

Rolf has an M.Sc. in software engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. Before starting DialogDesign he worked for almost 25 years as a software manager for large Danish companies such as Baltica Insurance and Kommunedata.
